Andrea Mulligan BSc (Hons), MSc, MNZPsS

ABOUT ANDREA

Hi, my name is Andrea. I am a Registered Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with a wide range of different people in a variety of settings and covering all aspects of mental health.

Having specialised in working with young adults as a Psychologist at the University of Canterbury for a number of years, I have also run a successful private practice for the past 14 years and have carried out contract work for consulting organisations as well as providing ACC psychological services. My particular areas of interest include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, eating issues, and stress. I also have many years of experience working with young women and enjoy helping them to understand and meet the challenges they face.

Over the years of practicing psychology, I have found that utilising a range of therapies and approaches according to the issue(s) presented and the client’s preferences is a successful recipe. Methods I use include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and general counselling techniques.

Please feel free to contact me if you think I may be able to help you, a friend or a family member. I am happy to accept self-referrals, or referrals can be from other agencies or health professionals. All work is strictly confidential and I abide by the Registered Psychologist’s Code of Ethics. Andrea’s contact number is 027 509 1799

Mike McKinney BA, MA (Hons), Dip Clin Psyc, MNZCCP

ABOUT MIKE

I am a Registered Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years’ experience. Over this time, I have worked in mental health and physical health settings in both the public and private domains. I have worked with a wide range of clients over the years presenting with issues including: depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, persistent pain, chronic health conditions, stress management, problem solving, as well as challenges within their career/work setting.

Over the years, I have become intrigued by the potential for an individual’s personality-style to affect decisions and behaviours in relation to achievement. I have recently published a book related to this and the influence of the ‘All or Nothing” personality-style (see PsycInsight blogs and elsewhere on the website). I believe there is a role for psychology to help people maximize their potential to achieve a more meaningful and rewarding life. This might be in the business/corporate world, sporting arena, the setting of life-goals or personal understanding and awareness.

I approach psychological therapy in a collaborative manner and focus on what is relevant plus most useful for each individual client. I employ a range of evidence-based therapeutic options that are built around my training and skill set within CBT, ACT and Schema-based approaches.
